About
Armenian concert pianist, born in Yerevan in 1967. He has taken prizes at the Leeds, Van Cliburn, Gina Bachauer, William Kapell and Dublin competitions, and has appeared as a soloist with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra under Simon Rattle, the Royal Philharmonic, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the Dallas and Utah symphonies, the St Petersburg Philharmonic under Yuri Temirkanov, the Moscow Philharmonic under Valery Gergiev, and the Israel Philharmonic. He studied at the Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory with Anahit Bogdanyan, and later with Claude Frank and Vera Gornostayeva. In 2004 he was a founding member of the Cadence Ensemble, known for its Piazzolla programmes. He has recorded for ASV, Real Sound and Signum Classics, with broadcasts on the BBC, PBS, ORF and RAI, and has played the Aspen, Interlochen and Baalbeck festivals. Alongside performing he has taught masterclasses across Europe, Asia and the United States and sat on international competition juries. He became Dean of the Piano Department at the Yerevan State Conservatory in 2012.
